I watched as a man rifled through the greeting card section of a card shop the other day, and I was shocked as he was so insistent on a certain card. The man glanced at the messages and stuffed them back as quick as he grabbed them.

I could stand it no longer and I asked him if it was a special occasion that the cards were not addressing.

He looked at me frustrated and said, “Nope, none of the darn things have very long messages in them.”

I understood his thought process. He reasoned that the longer the message, the more his partner could interpret her own message thinking that that surely was his intent as well and that he must have read it and it struck the same cord in him.

Oh, brother! This thinking, while it may be humorous, is about as flawed as one could imagine.

Guys are certainly not at fault for that kind of thinking as the love greeting card industry has fostered the very notion of a long, flowing card with butterflies and rainbows was filled with enough syrup to make any pancake breakfast a sheer delight.

But here is where the learning process steps in. As I told you in a previous post, you are to know yourself and the intent on which you are giving the card in the first place, for this is where your words will come from.

Over the next couple of posts, I will give examples of different thought processes as a place to begin the process of creating love in the written word.

Today, however, we will focus on the beginning of any love greeting card and that is the introduction of your thoughts of love. You see, regardless of the card, there is a love intention that must set the stage for everything else. This is the place that you set the course for the rest of your thoughts.

This introductory paragraph is not about the event that may be at the center of the love greeting card, but seeks to establish the reason love exist for you and your partner and how that influences you. It is a place of appreciation and of the single focus of love in your life.

I know this sounds like a lot for someone who is unaccustomed to ever write a true love greeting card or any love letter, but the process will become clearer as we progress. Stay with me on the journey and your reward of love will be more than you could ever imagine.

Loving love requires that you become more than the sum of your parts in many ways. What I mean by that, is that you must live in a new realm and you must love as if there is no other moment but this one.

Living in this realm is living in such a way that when you write love greeting cards, you will not be at a loss of words. You will exist in a place of love that is so pure, so exhilarating that writing love greeting cards becomes effortless.

So, how do you get there? How do you come to a place where writing love greeting cards become second nature to you?

Great questions.

First and foremost, it is your relationship with yourself that first must be addressed. It is your aspect of self-worth that gives you the impetus to create a love greeting card that has meaning.

So many men, especially, take the easy way out and search for some greeting card that they hope will men something to their partner, never fully realizing that the greeting card itself was probably written by a woman freelance writer who doesn’t care a bit about your partner.

Really? Is that what you are doing here? Taking the easy way out?

I didn’t think so.

So, let us go back to creating a love greeting card that has a personality. At the core of that personality is you.

So the first step is to get in touch with who you are and let’s go from there.
